Dear
Veterinarian,
I am Thomas Marks, owner and a professional
compounding pharmacist at Martin Avenue Pharmacy. I
am an active member of Professional Compounding Centers
of America and have been a guest speaker at numerous
National and Local Conventions. I have been a pharmacist
for over twenty-four years and Martin Avenue Pharmacy
is one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the
Midwest.
As mentioned throughout this website,
Martin Avenue Pharmacy is heavily involved in making
compounds to serve patients special needs. Our
patients include humans and also animals. Although Martin
Avenue Pharmacy does not practice veterinary medicine,
we are here to serve veterinarians and animal care specialists.
Martin Avenue Pharmacys compounding
laboratory has over 100 devices. It is these devices
that separate us from your regular pharmacy and other
compounding pharmacies. Some of the devices that we
use are: laminar flow hoods which allows us to create
a sterile environment, ointment mills, tube sealers,
electronic balances, suppository molds, rectal rocket
mold, electric heat and stirrer unit, lozenge and troche
molds, lip balm tubes, lollipop molds, a mortar and
pestle and the list goes on. It is through the use of
these devices and chemicals that we can compound prescription
drugs that have become unavailable, discontinued, or
let us make any combination of medication your patient
needs.
Compounding has several benefits for your
patient. First, it allows you to prescribe any dosage
strength for your patient. Second, compounding allows
you to prescribe a medication in a different dosage
form for your patient who can not swallow or may need
a liquid. Third, it enables us to change the flavor
of a bitter drug or remove a substance that is in the
manufactured drug that your patient may be allergic
to. Finally, compounding allows you to combine three
medicines into one, so it is more convenient and less
costly for the patient.
Martin Avenue Pharmacy will be glad to
serve you and your patients to improve the quality of
care and drug therapy in which you and your patients
are receiving. If you would like to see our devices
and compounding laboratory, we are located at 10 West
Martin Avenue in Naperville, IL. Feel free to give us
a call if you have any questions or feel that compounding
could benefit your practice today at 1-888-355-6492
or simply return the questionnaire so we can better
serve you.
Thank You,
Thomas G. Marks R. Ph.
